Author Thursday: Interview with Sheryl Nantus

Today I'm super excited to interview Sheryl Nantus. I've professed my love for her books before, particularly her Blood of the Pride series. She's sharing a bit about her upcoming sci-fi romance series In the Black, and I'm so looking forward to it!

1. What flavor is your writing? (Spicy? Action? Space odyssey? Ninjas? All of the above?)

I like to think of it as sweet with a dash of spicy – sort of your hot sauce sneaking in atop your steak! Women and men finding love in the strangest of places… whether you're a cat shifter or a captain aboard a space brothel – everyone needs love and love conquers all!

2. Where do you get your inspiration?

I have no idea. Seriously. I read fiction, nonfiction, books on mythology and serial killers, watch documentaries on PBS and love comic books and gaming. I like to think it all sort of sloshes around in me widdle head until it comes together to burp out something.

3. I’ve often professed my love for your Blood of the Pride and Blaze of Glory series. A little birdie told me you have a sci-fi romance in the works. What can you tell us about that?

Ah! Well I've started a new series with Carina Press – Tales from the Edge.

Book 1, "In the Black", comes out May 14th but is available right now for preordering from all the usual ebookstores. Here's the official blurb:

When Sam Keller left the military, she ran to the far end of the galaxy. Now she captains the Bonnie Belle, a spaceship full of courtesans who bring a little pleasure to hard-up men on mining colonies. When one of her girls turns up dead, it's Sam's job to find out who killed her, fast.

Marshal Daniel LeClair is as tough as steel and quick on the draw. But when his vacation gets replaced by an assignment to help find the killer, he can't help angling for a little action with the saucy, hard-charging Sam. She's got brains, attitude and a body he wouldn't mind investigating.

Sam, six months lonely, might just indulge him. But the Guild that owns the Belle wants the case closed yesterday. With pressure coming from all quadrants, Sam and her marshal clash over false leads and who's on top. But when the killer threatens the Belle again, romance will have to wait. It's a captain's job to save her crew, no matter the cost.

The next book, "In the Void", comes out in October and focuses in on one of the courtesans, Sean Harrison and his story. I'm hoping to do more in the series and hope the readers will enjoy what I like to call a mishmash of "Firefly" and "Best Little Whorehouse"… :-)

4. What are you reading now, or what books do you have in your TBR pile?

Just started "Death in the city of Light", about a WW2 serial killer in Paris. I've also got Lovecraft short stories on my Nook and just finished the most recent "In Death". I so *heart* Dallas…

(warned you I read lots of odd stuff!)

5. What are you working on now?

Book 3 in the "Tales from the Edge" series – focusing in on one of the courtesans and setting up a crisis… but we'll see where that goes.
